VACANCY: MANAGER: LICENSING AND COMPLIANCE
South African Music Performance Rights Association (SAMPRA), a non-profit company based in Parktown, has a vacancy of a Manager: Licensing and Compliance. This is a permanent position that reports to the Chief Legal and Revenue Officer. SAMPRA issues licences to music users, collects, manages, and distributes royalties on behalf of its members.
MAIN PURPOSE
To generate revenue by licensing new music users, guide, mentor and support Compliance Consultants.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set team performance targets,
- Conduct performance contracting, management, and reviews,
- Initiate and support Performance Improvement Process (PIPs) to guide team members who are struggling to meet performance expectations,
- Plan and execute daily operational duties,
- Develop and implement operational reports to track performance,
- Ensure strict compliance with company policies and operational processes,
- Recruit, onboard, and train staff members,
- Identify and implement improvements to business processes,
- Evaluate and recommend revision of licensing tariffs where necessary,
- Identify and educate unlicensed entities using sound recordings within SAMPRA’s repertoire about licensing and enforce compliance,
- Negotiate with non-compliant users to secure licensing agreements,
- Oversee the licensing administration process to ensure accuracy and completeness,
- Reassess and ensure inspections of existing clients to maintain compliance,
- Plan and execute provincial trips as required,
- Contribute to the development and execution of the annual sales strategy and budget,
- Manage relationships with new and existing stakeholders through events and workshops,
- Collaborate with internal teams involved in the licensing process to ensure seamless operations,
- Develop and implement strategies/mechanisms to manage the sales pipeline effectively,
- Resolve escalated queries and complaints efficiently, and
- Manage previous consultants’ email communications to address outstanding
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Experience of working in a collective management organisation or licensing environment,
- Relevant degree qualification,
- A minimum of 5 years of sales experience,
- At least 2 years’ experience of managing a team,
- In-depth understanding of copyright,
- Strong negotiation and interpersonal communication skills,
- Effective report writing and research capabilities,
- Firm yet professional,
- Solution oriented and strategic thinker,
- Process and workflow management skills,
- Ability to co-ordinate team activities,
- Attention to detail,
- Above average customer service,
- The ability to exercise professional judgment,
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and CRM,
- Ability to take initiatives, and
- Applicant must have a car and a driver’s
